Federal Home Improvement Tax Credit

Available on home improvements placed in service between January 1, 2009 & December 31, 2010.  Tax credits are for 30% of the material cost of the improvement, up to $1,500 and are available for insulation, replacement windows, non-solar water heaters, and certain high efficiency heating and cooling equipment.  Some improvements, such as geothermal heat pumps, solar water heaters, solar panels and windmills are not subject to the $1,500 maximum.

Energy Star Program

The New York Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® programs are designed to lower energy usage by encouraging energy efficiency improvements.  In order to qualify for the programs customers must purchase electric from a participating utility company.  The programs are available to electric distribution customers (residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial) who pay into the System Benefits Charge (SBC).

Participating Energy Companies in Western New York

·         New York State Electric and Gas Corporation (NYSEG)

·         Rochester Gas and Electric Corporation (RG&E)

·         National Grid

(Income Qualifications Required)

Available through the Assisted Home Performance with ENERGY STARÒ program for income qualified homeowners.  50% of the work scope up to $5,000 is available for single family homes and up to $10,000 for 2 to 4 family homes on all energy saving work performed by a BPI certified contractor.
